Kinja'd!!!

So, I've been exploring my possible options as a next car to replace my 2.8 B5 A4 with.

The S4 has been eliminated due to yours truly not being able to afford a timing chain overhaul and I'd rather not take the risk even though I love the B6 S4 for all the right reasons. Also insurance.

I've got a good amount of experience with the 2.0t engine, I know it's flaws, common problems and running costs. That's why finding a B7 Avant with the 2.0t paired with the 6-Speed manual would be very nice. They don't come up often, But when they do they are priced around $10,000.

I'd have to go with an AWE Tuning performance exhaust*, APR Stage 1, and a bunch of cosmetic stuff to start with.

*AWE Tuning exhausts sound amazing, They sound like Satan is trapped in there.

Reasons why you should convince me further that I can think of:

1. Manual Wagon.

2. Turbo.

3. Quattro.

4. Cheaper Insurance than an S4.

5. Cheaper Insurance, because wagons are usually cheaper to insure.

6. The 2.0t is my bitch.

7. Lots of aftermarket everything.

Give me more good reasons, Or bad reasons and I'll give you some Oppo points. (Not valid for anything but personal satisfaction.)

I approve. If you know the 2.0t in and out why not! That's why I love the V70R, I know far too much about the 2.5l, 2.4l turbo'd Volvo 5 cylinder. It makes it pretty simple to work on.

Yay!!! I've had a B7 before I had my B5, and only had one major problem which usually happens below 100k.

The 2.0t is a good engine though, You can easily make it lots more powerful.

All the reasons you listed are valid. This decision shall stand.

And I have a thing for Quattro wagons. Manual turbo just makes it better.

Same, Quattro wagons make my pants feel funny. But manual turbo makes them feel even funnier.

The 2.5t in the R is pretty close to the edge as it is. To do what I want to do eventually (300whp) will require a bigger turbo and probably sleeving the block.

Do you have an equivalent to Frankenturbo for VAG? I'd imagine you could get some truly amazing performance out of the R.

Your plan is the best plan. As a former B8 A4 owner I approve.

Well iPd is finally (hopefully) coming out with their stage 3 kit (after almost 3 years) to make 420+ on stock internals, but there's also the Cavalli turbo which in the absence of iPd has become upgrade of choice. All of these upgrades also need a bigger intercooler, a downpipe, tune, and exhaust.

I'm rather confident cautiously optimistic about iPd's kit because their test car has 220k+ on it.

Sounds like an awesome plan! I'd also consider an 328i touring because the mod availability for those is starting to improve (supercharger, intake/header/tune package, etc) and those are the best 3 series you'll see BMW make. Also, they like to rev to their 7,100 RPM redline smoothly while sounding like this.

Either wagon would be awesome.

That's awesome! I would too be a bit nervous about extreme mods at high mileage though. Sounds like you really love the car, So maybe a rebuild?

Probably what I'll do. Sleeve the block, put new pistons in etc... then go buck wild!

Or buy an R that needs an engine and keep Wampa stock.

Yes, yes I did. I was between Wampa and Elsa. Wampa seemed more appropriate. Also ThinkGeek sells a wamp arm ice scraper as well as a wampa rug that would look fantastic in the back.
